William was born about 1772 most likely in North Carolina. Records of him and his family are difficult to find and sometimes contradict one another when piecing together event dates. According to family stories about 1808 he married first Virginia Jane McFarland in Virginia. Together they had the following children:
Josiah Jeffrey was born about 1809
Ezekiel McFarland Jeffrey was born about 1815
William M. Jeffrey was born about 1816 and died 1894
Milton Jameson Jeffrey was born about 1818 and died 1898
Virginia Jane McFarland died sometime after 1818 and William married secondly Elizabeth McNeely (or possibly Smith according to one record) before the year 1826. She was born about 1790 according to census records however conflicting dates of birth are documented. Together William and Elizabeth had the following children:
Eliza Jeffrey was born 1827 and died 1922
Bird Lochard Jeffrey was born 1829 and died 1896
Sarah J. Jeffrey was born about 1835
On the 1860 Census William is noted as being a soldier in the War of 1812. There is also a service record naming William Jeffrey as serving for the 4th Regiment Virginia Militia as a Sergeant during that time.
William and his sons are documented in various property records of Virginia. In the 1820 census he appears in Guyandotte, Cabell, Virginia. In 1824 he is first documented on the property tax list in Logan County. William and his sons are documented in the same place throughout the years and are all found living close to one another at Hewitt's Creek, Logan, (West) Virginia. William died here about 1865.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with William by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with William:
I see another entry for this same William Jeffrey but I don’t know how to merge. I am away from my computer. Can someone help? The duplicate id is jeffrey-807
There is new DNA link to Richard Jeffrey from Monmouth, New Jersey. There are no known birth records for William. He is known to have died in 1865 in West Virginia. Anyone else have DNA that could link William to Richard?
