Francis was born about 1844 in Amherst, Massachusetts[1].
He was the son of Matilda and William Jennings.
Private in Company H of the 54th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry, the first regiment in the United States to enlist men of color during that war. Enlisted on 23 November 1863 from Hadley, Massachusetts. He was 20 years old, married and working as a farmer when he enlisted. Mustered out 20 August 1865.
His brother William H. H. Jennings served in Company C.
He passed away in 1897 and is buried at Old Hadley Cemetery in Hadley, Massachusetts.
