  • It was about 1896 when Mr. Soderholm built the first sawmill in Hermantown next to the railroad spur at Adolph. Here the farmers would bring their logs in the winter and they would be cut into lumber in the spring. In 1899 the Gulbransons built a combination lumber and shingle mill on their property at Adolph. Logs were brought in from neighboring townships as well as Hermantown and the mills would operate well into the summer before the piles were cleaned up. http://www.turbinecar.com/misc/Hermantown-all.pdf

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with John by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with John:

Johansson-2454 and Soderholm-25 appear to represent the same person because: Hi I started to look into your wikitree profile because you have a DNA match of Mia and I saw that you have some roots in Sweden with Söderholm that you dont know from where in Sweden, Söderholm.....

I did some research and checked and think I have found him in Östergötland. Please let me know if you think also its the right person and then its just to merge the profiles......

Mom thinks that her grandfather, John Soderholm, may have been a Johansen in Sweden and changed to Soderholm upon emigrating. Soderholm means "south island".
From Vic Watt on the G2G feed:

According to the 1910 US Census, John was born about 1855 In Sweden, and.John came to US in 1880. Mary was also born in Sweden about 1862, and she came to the US in 1885. They had (at least) 5 children: Roy, Carl A.R., Carl P., Mary A., and Carl. (Yep, 3 Carl's.)

A Johan Alfred Soderholme died in Saint Louis County, MN, on 9 Apr 1914. I think this is the correct person, as Mary is a widow in 1920. I can post this and other finding on the profile for you if you will grant meTrusted List Status.
