Disputed Origins Robert Johnson may be seen as the son of a Thomas Johnston and an Agnes Maxwell. These parents have been detached for lack of documentation and a strong probability that these persons may not exist but appear in some internet genealogy to erroneously connect Robert Johnson to James (Stewart) IV of Scotland. The origins of Robert Johnson are currently unknown. Please do not attach parents without primary source documentation.

Robert Johnston now attached as father has been attached absent primary source documentation and will be detached absent primary sources. T Stanton, Leader Quakers Project

Biography

Ireland Native
Robert Johnson was born in Ireland.

Robert Johnson, of Cooleboy, County Wicklow, married Margaret Brathwit [sic] of Ballynacarrig, County Wicklow, 29 Aug 1693 at Wicklow Monthly Meeting.[1] Parents of the couple are not stated on the marriage contract. Among the 32 witnesses the only other Johnson is a "Robert Johnson Son" and no members of the Brathwit family. It has been suggested that the "Robert Johnson Son" could simply indicate that this Robert's father was Robert.

ROBERT JOHNSON, and wife Margaret, from Carlow Meeting, Ireland, received 12 mo. 5, 1714.[2]

Research Notes

It may be seen in several research efforts that this Robert, or perhaps a father Robert, is the son of a Thomas Johnson who died Fermanagh, Ireland in 1658. There are extant records but for one Thomas Johnson, gent of Tullyhanon, Fermanagh whose will is dated 14 Oct 1658 and who died 4 Feb 1658/59. Between the genealogical extracts of Betham and Thrift based upon the will (National Archives, Dublin) we know that the Thomas who died 1658/59 was the son of a Thomas (whose will is dated 1636), his wife was Jane, and at the time he wrote the will in October 1658 he had one son named Thomas. He had a brother Robert and sister Mary, and a half-brother (name illegible in Thrift) who was age perhaps 59 (or 69). The abstracts indicate sufficient land rents to pay debts with the residue to wife Jane and child.[4][5][6] ~ Research Ongoing T Stanton 24 Mar 2023

Because of the controversy over family connections, I have made the Quakers Project a manager, along with Todd Stanton to help keep an eye on the profile on the Project’s behalf, and given the profile Project Protection.

This is an 8th great grandfather. What documentation or justification is there for the attached parents? I see none but it does serve to link him to royalty without any documentation.
