Biography

Hugh was born in 1865 in Liverpool.

Hugh married Mary Ellen Rigby on August 27th 1892, at the Wesleyan Chapel in Pennington. She was living in Plank Lane, Westleigh.

By March 31st 1901, Hugh and Mary were living at 78 Twist Lane, Leigh. Hugh had his own shop selling household furnishings. They had three children - John Edward (6), Herbert (3) and Lily (1).

By April 2nd 1911, they were living in Common Lane Street, Westleigh. Mary's mother Margaret was living with them. They were still running a furniture shop, and had seven children, the eldest of whom was to become the founder of modern computational chemistry.

Hugh passed away August 7th 1914 in Leigh district, aged 49.

Mary died April 5th 1939 in Leigh district, aged 73. She was buried in Leigh Cemetery.
