Matthew L. Jones, 77, of a nursing home at 6301 E. 125th St., Grandview, died Wednesday at St. Joseph Health Center. He was born in Greenwood, Miss., and lived in this area for 38 years. Mr. Jones had been a custodian for the Kansas City School District. He was a Baptist.
He lives his wife, Gladys C. Jones of the home; three sons, Bryan Overcast, El Dorado Springs, Mo., and Doyle Jones and Don Jones of Montgomery, Ala.; a daughter, Delores Maddox, Greenwood, S.C.; five sisters, Lela Lofton, Mize, Miss., Margaret Gill, Semmes, Ala., Laura Parkman, Polkville, Miss., Jannie Lingle, Pelahatchie, Miss., and Tennie Bishop, Magee, Miss.; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Sheil Independence Avenue Chapel; burial in Mount Washington Cemetery. Friends may call from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the chapel. [4]
