August 16th, 1842 “Be it remembered that it is in proof satisfactory to the court that Robert Davis & Hannah Smith are creditable persons and the said Robert Davis and Hannah Smith upon their oaths state they have long been acquainted with Lindsey Powel of Casey Co, KY who was the son of Edmond Powel, that his mother's maiden name was LUCY JOPLIN and she was the daughter of Thomas Joplin of Amherst County, State of Virginia who lived on Rockfish, that said LUCY JOPLIN intermarried with said Edmond Powel by whom she had six children namely 1 William, 2 Frances (who intermarried with Charles Kavanauh), 3 Mary (who intermarried with John T. Marshall), 4 Hannah (who intermarried with Robert Simpson), 5 Lindsey, and 6 James and that said LUCY POWELL departed this life about twenty years ago in the state of Tennessee and Edmond Powel, father of said Lindsey departed this life some years ago in Casey County, Kentucky.
