Joane Palmer

Arrival 1621/1622 Virginia [1]

Research Notes

Alternative information: Joan was born about 1593. She was the daughter of Samuel Jordan and Cecily Unknown. She passed away about 1633.[2]

Cecily, born 1600, could not have been mother. 1593 is earlier than the 1595 date reported for Samuel's previous marriage.

Jordan-4097 and Jordan-1260 appear to represent the same person because: Hi! I just completed a merge of duplicates for her husband. These duplicates need to be merged also. Thanks!

Joan is not a documented daughter of Samuel Jordan. Some believe he had a first wife in England by which he had three sons, no daughters. The name of that possible first wife is nowhere recorded. Dorman states that of the three possible sons, only Thomas is possible (and some believe that incorrect). Is it possible she is a daughter of Silvestre Jourdain of the Sea Venture? He is frequently conflated with Samuel Jordan including by historian Boddie (as noted on Samuel's profile).

Our Overby ( Overbury) Family Tree has ..

Joane ( Joan ) Jordan m Capt Thomas Palmer... Dates of birth & death ( 1593-1633) ...which I have seen also listed as on her mother's profile - Fleming -5261 (?)

disconnected Joan as daughter of Cecily (Unknown) Ferrar, who was born in 1600. She married Samuel Jordan in 1618 or 1620. Joan is probably his daughter by his previous wife.

From Cecily's profile:

"Cecily 20, promptly married her much older neighbor Samuel Jordan 42, shortly before December 1620. Cecily was about a year younger than Samuel Jordan's eldest son. Samuel had been previously married in England with four known children, but after his first wife died he immigrated to America in 1609 aboard the Seaventure which was shipwrecked off Bermuda, not arriving in Virginia till May 1610."

Disconnecting as daughter of Samuel Jordan (he had no daughter of this name) and as daughter of Frances Anne (Baker) Jordan who is a fictional representation of a possible first wife. Dorman mentions the unknown possible first wife but ascribes only one possible child, Thomas, as being a child of that union.
