Biography

Sarah Joy was born on April 14, 1681 in Hingham. Her parents were Joseph Joy and Mary Prince. [1][2]

She married Nathaniel Cudworth on February 14, 1703-4.[3][4]

In 1730, Sarah was appointed guardian of her children, Jonathan, Benjamin, Hannah, Rachel, and Joanna.[5]

Probate

The will of Sarah Cudworthof Scituate, widow was dated 20 October 1763 and proved on 18 June 1768 in Plymouth. She mentions her children, Benjamin Cudworth (executor), Jonathan Cudworth, decd., Sarah Vinal, Hannah Woodworth, Joanna Briggs, Rachel Briggs, decd., Israel Cudworth, decd., and her grandchildren, Martha Burr and Ruth Nichols (daughters of her son Israel, decd.), Joseph Briggs, and Seth Briggs (sons of her daughter Rachel Briggs, decd.), and Deborah Cudworth, and Jonathan Cudworth (children of her son Jonathan Cudworth, decd). Her inventory was taken on 8 July 1768 in Scituate.[6]

In 1769, an account of her estate by Benjamin Cudworth was recorded which included, funeral charges, legacies paid, debts paid, and administration fees.[7]

In 1770, an account of her estate by Benjamin Cudworth was recorded which included the sale of real estate, legacies paid, funeral charges, and administration fees. The executor received the balance of almost 2 pounds.[8]
