Peter Kasten was born in Pomerania, Germany. He was married to Katharina Dumke. He immigrated to America in about 1880. He passed away in Wisconsin.
Peter was born in Germany. He had well-to-do parents, but because he had a large number of brothers, each did not get much. Along with the listed children of Peter, there were also two boys born, both of whom were named Gustav, and both died young. Peter was a tailor, but after many years became a livestock trader, including fine horses, and became quite prosperous, but lost it all, either by disease or a bad business deal. About this same time his daughter became pregnant out of wedlock, so he decided to leave Treptow with his daughter, his son, Otto, and one other son. One or two sons remained in the Pomeranian area.
He moved to Watertown, Wisconsin, and reportedly could not get steady work and was regarded as a pathetic figure. The daughter who had an illegitimate child (I don't know her name)later married in Wisconsin, to someone the family member relating this understood to be Frank Heidemann, a large, hearty farmer who was blind in the left eye.
