Biography

Jennie Maria Keach was born in 1878.[1] She was the first daughter and second child of Charles Keach and Letitia Cowan. Her birth date was recorded on the 1901 census, referenced below.

Jennie grew up in West Potton, where she was recorded with parents and family on the 1881 census.[2] When her parents moved to North Troy, Vermont in about 1890, Jennie and her brother Clarence stayed behind in Potton, at least for a time, with their grandparents.[3] When her parents moved back to Potton, Jennie was recorded with them on the 1901 census.[4]

In 1909, Jennie married David Halley.[5] David was born in Georgeville, Que., on 11 March 1868, the son of Scottish immigrants David Halley (Sr.) and Margaret Smith.

Jennie and David settled in Mansonville Village, where they had two children:

  1. Letitia Margaret, b. 29 Jan. 1912; m1. Arthur Albert Willard, 31 July 1939; m2. Grayson Donaghy Cousens, 5 Oct. 1960; d. 7 April 1997, and
  2. David Keach, b. 26 June 1914; d. 23 July 1945 (unm.).

This family lived in the house today (2020) located at 6 Chemin du Vale Perkins in Mansonville village (now a grocery store). They were living in Mansonville village when the 1911[6] and 1921[7] censuses were taken.

Jennie was active in the church and other social activities. She was the organist at the Methodist Church for about 25 years, until health prevented her from continuing.

In 1936, Jennie lost her husband, who had endured several years of ill health.

Jennie passed away in Mansonville in 1937.[8] and was buried with her husband in Mansonville Protestant Cemetery.[9]
