Biography

Clarence Thomas Keach was born in 1875, the first child of Charles Keach and Letitia Cowan. His birth date is recorded as 19 July 1876 on his death record (referenced below), but July 1875 on the the 1900 census (referenced below).

Clarence grew up in West Potton, where he was recorded with parents and family on the 1881 census.[1] When his parents moved to North Troy, Vermont in about 1890, Clarence and his sister Jennie stayed behind in Potton, at least for a time, with their grandparents.[2]

As soon as Clarence was old enough to work, he moved (around 1894) to take employment in St, Johnsbury, Vermont. He was employed initially by H. E. Moore, then later by Fairbanks scale works. In 1900, Clarence and his brother Henry were boarding in St. Johnsbury.[3]

While in St, Johnsbury, Clarence met and married Myrtle Mary McLaughlin, on 12 April 1905.[4] Myrtle was born in Kirby, Vt., daughter of Charles Mclaughlin and Susan Sartwell. Soon after the marriage, Clarence took Myrtle back to Potton, Quebec to live for a few years. In 1911, they were recorded on the Potton census.[5] They lived in Potton on what later would become known as the "Korman" farm.

Then in October 1912, they moved to Boston. They did not have children.

Clarence passed away in Boston of Bright's disease in 1914, at the age of only 38.[6][7] He was interred in North Troy, Vermont. In addition to the Obituary attached, the following pieces were also written at the time:

POTTON, 18 Dec 1914 - "Mr. Clarence Keach, an old Potton boy, died suddenly on Sunday Dec 6th at his home in Boston, from the effects of paralytic shock and hemmorrage of the lungs. Funeral was at his mother's home on Dec 9th. Rev Ge. Runnels officiating. Mr. Keach's age was about 40 years"[8]
North Troy, 9 December (1914) - "Clarence T. Keach died Sunday morning at his home in Boston where he moved from Potton, Que., about two years ago. The funeral was held at the house to-day, the Rev. Mr. Runnels, pastor of the Methodist Episcopal church at Mansonville, officiating. Mr. Keach is survived by his wife and five brothers, WIlliam J., of this place, Henry R., of Boston, Charles R., of Philadelphia, Percy, of Salem, and Archie, of Mansonville; also by two sisters, Jennie M. Holly, and Mabel Keach."[9]

His widow moved on by marrying one of Clarence's younger brothers, Henry.
