Martin married Emma Kies, according to notes from Ina Bianca Kellar Barck.

Her sister, Effie Kies, is also buried in the Kellar family plot in Graceland Cemetery, Albert Lea. The death date is from the tombstone.

Martin farmed near Albert Lea.

The 1885 Minnesota Census lists William Kellar, 64, born in KY, with Martin B. Kellar, 35, born in Wisconsin, and Emma, 19, born in Wisconsin; the latter must be his wife.

The History of Freeborn County (Minn.), published about 1910, carries a full-page photo of Martin V. Kellar. His biography is carried on p. 751. The history credits him as being an editor of the information for the book.
