Robert Henry Kelly was born in 1848 in the Bahama Islands - likely Harbour Island - the first born son of Robert Kelly and Mary Roberts.
There is little known about him (to date) except for a mention in his mother's 1914 obituary which noted that she (Mary Fletcher Roberts Kelly) " .. was a sufferer in the historical calamity of the Glass Window, her oldest son having been one of the victims of the tidal wave that swept so many into eternity."
This event may well be the "tidal wave" at Eleuthera's Glass Window that was mentioned in Harper's New Monthly Magazine: ".. in 1872 a very extraordinary tidal wave rose without warning at the Glass Windows, washing under the arch and entirely over the island, carrying away several young people who were enjoying a picnic there.."
Harper's New Monthly Magazine, Volume 49, issue 294, 1874.
Obituary. The Tribune, Nassau, Bahamas 12 September 1914.
