John Wesley Bowman Kelly came to Guelph from Ancaster Township in 1842. He had a planing mill and was a cabinet-maker at Eramosa Road at the Speed River, Kelly Furniture Factory. The family first lived at the Priory, Macdonnell & Woolwich Streets next to the Speed River. First constructed as a residence for John Galt, the large log building was later used as a caravansary (inn for travellers). JWB Kelly then moved a 2-story stone house in town, then to a Guelph Township 100 acre farm on Concession A, Lots 25 and 26 near the Guelph town limits, the South-East corner of Speedvale and Willow Rd. today. He and his wife Eliza had 11 children, with Brock, Ann, Sarah, Jane and Charles living to adulthood. The others are buried with their parents at Woodlawn Cemetery. On Oct 12, 1882 in Fergus Ontario he married Maria Ann Laurason, widow of Robert Murray Beemer (1828-1872). John W. B. Kelly, a retired farmer died from "a gradual wasting with failure of the heart" at his house at 238 Liverpool Street, Guelph, age 78 y 6 mo. Kelly-5367 23:50, 15 September 2014 (EDT)
