A. James Kendall Jr., son of of James Sr., and Ann (Lucas) Kendall, was born in Maryland in 1763, and died in Adams County, Ohio, in December, 1824. In or about 1784 he married, in Fayette County, Pennsylvania. Ruhama Moore, daughter of Aaron Sr. and Mary (Prather) Moore. She died in Adams County in 1842. Her brothers Hosea, Aaron Jr., and Henry Moore, and her sister, Martha (Moore) Hannah (wife of William Hannah), were also among the first settlers in Adams County.
In Caldwell's Atlas of Adams County, page 20, it is stated that Kames and Ruhama (Moore) Kendall were the parents of twenty-four children, eighteen of whom were living in 1880, "several of them in Winchester Township". This statement has been repeated in other works. However, only eleven children of James and Ruhama Kendall are listed in deeds in the Adams County Recorder's office covering the disposition of James Kendall's land.
