Cramming as much sightseeing as they can into their brief visit, and attending the many parties arranged in their honour, the party of visiting English schoolgirls have had a crowded programme since their arrival last Sunday night. Setting off early yesterday morning, the girls visited Yaralla, Dame Eadith Walker's home at Concord, where they saw the lovely gardens, and were entertained at a buffet luncheon by their hostess. In the early afternoon, the launch Premier took the girls on board at the Yaralla wharf, and after a tour of the harbour, they went on to Govern- ment House, where they were received by the Governor and Lady Game. Afternoon tea was served, followed by an inspection of the grounds, the tower, and the ballroom, with its interesting portraits, which were explained to the girls by their host and hostess. Miss Edith Thompson, director of the tour, accom-. panied the party. Two dances last night, one given by Miss Nancy Jobson, at Hopewood House, and the other by Miss Cheriton, at Doone, were ar- ranged in the visitors' honour. At Hopewood House, Miss Jobson, who was assisted by the pupils and members of the teaching staff, received her guests wearing a gown of Persian red meteor crepe and a coronet of the same shade. Roses in all shades decorated the ballroom, and one hun- dred guests danced, the lounge, and the dining- room, and nasturtiums and yellow broome were used effectively in the entrance hall. The guests included three of the visiting school- girls—the Misses Heather Jarvis, Winifred Nelson, and Doreen Oldfield, who are Miss Jobson's house guests, and the Misses Rachel Aldridge, Diana Burgin, Jean Birford, Joan Duncan, Joan Dowsitt, Catherine Few, Betty King, Ogilie Kidd, Mary Jordan, Margaret Tocher, and Helen Waters, other members of. the party. Others present were Miss Edith Thompson, Miss Beulah Bolton, Lady King, Miss Teece, Mrs. Clive Teece, Dr. Sybil Bevan, Misses Joyce Boynton, Enid Abrahams, Lysle Mason, Margaret Lightfoot-Walker, Peggy and Laurie Reynolds, Nada Kensit, Dorothy Youngman, Genevieve Kett, and Nancy Burleigh. PARTY AT DOONE. Two of the visitors, who are staying with Miss Cheriton at Doone—the Misses Kathleen O'Brien and Barbara Townsend—-were guests of honour at the dance arranged at the school last night. Miss Cheriton, whose kingfisher blue velvet gown was adorned with a corsage posy of lily of the valley, was the hostess with thirty-four of her pupils. They in- cluded the Misses Claudia Beazley, Alison Dent, Christine Parr, Lucille Dupain, Enid Board, Rosalind Macarthur Onslow, Molly Walder, Betty and Lorna Bradford. Pauline Spencer Parsons, Barbara Lotherington, Berice and June Hinder, Rona and Kathleen Gedge. Lesley Turner, Kathleen Kavanagh, Clare Butler, Margaret Clive, Norma and Joyce Carpenter. The guests included several mem- bers of the visiting English group, who are staying in private homes. Masses of pink carnations were chosen to decorate the recep-. tion rooms. To-day the young English visitors will go for a bush picnic at Glengarry, where they will be the guests of the Girl Guides. A visit to Koala Park will be made on the way home. Newspaper Article. To celebrate the third anniversary of the opening of Hopewood House, Darling Point; Miss Nancy Jobson entertained at a birthday dance last night. Stock, sweet peas, and camellias in pink, shades decorated the reception-rooms and the ballroom, and Miss Jobson received her guests wearing a gown of lees-of-wine georgette. She added a spray of daphne, which was presented to her by her pupils. The two youthful girls who acted as hostesses for the evening were Miss June Burnside, who chose a lovely gown of leaf brown taffeta shot with gold; and Miss Dorothy Nott, whose frock of white figured taffeta was finished with a swathed belt of. green velvet. QUEENSLAND VISITOR. Miss Jean Mackay, of Goodooga, Queens- land, was a special guest, as she was Miss Jobson's first pupil at Hopewood House. Miss Mackay, who wore a frock of floral cloque designed with a cross-over bodice, is at present staying witli another ex-pupil, Miss Joan Piggott, of Neutral Bay, who was also at the dance, wearing a draped gown of black tulip velvet. STUDENTS and ex-students from as. far afield as Toowoomba and Townsville were among those who cele- brated the sixth birthday of Hopewood House, Darling Point, with a dance in the Hopewood House ballroom last night. But Miss P. Suiter, who with Miss W. A. Wilson assisted the principal, Miss Nancy Jobson, in receiving the guests, explained that a birthday cake is only produced once every five years. Miss Jobson's harebell-blue chiffon gown, beaded on the corsage, was worn with a black velvet cape; and Miss Suiter chose a frock of wine self-patterned satin with a matching coatee. Miss Wilson was in Parma-vilolet chiffon, with a spray of flowers. to tone at the neckline. Country ex-students present included Misses Edith and Nada Kensit, of Wallah Station, in the Crookwell district; and Miss Elizabeth Bowman, of Cassills. Delphinium-blue taffeta fashioned the bouffant frock worn by Miss Ann Roberts (Townsville), and Miss Dabee Evans was in an unusual frock in al- ternating panels of pale pink, blue, and lilac net, mounted, on satin. She trimmed her hair with a wreath of pink rosebuds. Miss Elsie Thompson (Portland) pinned red roses to the corsage of her sky-blue chiffon frock; and Miss Nona Lloyd (Melbourne), whose gown was of palest pink lace, wore red roses in her hair. Miss Janet Nelson (Toowoomba) was in burgundy velvet, with a matching Jacket and corsage floral spray; and Miss Pauline Hudson (New Zealand) wore azure-blue taffeta embroidered in bright colours. Mulberry taffeta with-a wide band of duck-egg blue taffeta across the bodice was worn by Miss Agnes Sinclair (Toowoomba). An unusual gown was the choice of Miss Dorothy Whitford. The bouffant skirt was of taffeta in the Stewart dress tartan, and with it she wore an Edwardian blouse of white needlerun lace. The. pretty top arrangement of ar-. tificial flowers was loaned by. the bride's aunt, Mrs. John Gay. This same decoration was used. on Mrs. Gay's wedding cake. The bride and bridegroom. were the recipients of many very. lovely presents and substantial. cheques. The Rev. J. Donoghue presid-. ed and the customary toasts. were honoured. A feature of the reception was. the table decoration arranged by. the C.W.A., the lovely flowers. were supplied by friends of the. bride. A very large number of con. gratulatory telegrams were. read at the reception. During the intervals between. the toasts Mrs. Coleman, of. Mudgee, sang very sweetly, "Sa-. laam," and Miss Nancy Mew-. burn, of Rugby, played "Prelude. in C Sharp Minor." The latter. also accompanied the musical. toasts.
