My name is William L. Kernan, and I was born in the 1970s the son of William C. Kernan and Carolyn S. Hamilton. I currently live in Southern California. Although I have always had an interest in history, and found oral family history to be fascinating, I became interested and involved in genealogy through a research course I took while in college. Since college, I have continued researching my family history when I’ve had the time in order to fill in gaps and compile a more complete family history.
I currently research the families of my paternal and maternal grandparents, as well as related branches. My paternal grandfather's families include Kernan, Sheridan, Dunton, Stearns, Davis, Beeney, Rains, and Smith. My paternal grandmother's families include Lapham, Mann, Arnold, Colwell, Broadway, Reynolds, Leishman, Wellin, Stålberg, Agee, and Graber. My maternal grandfather's families include Hamilton (originally Heldman), Catlin, Lightcap, and Worthington. My maternal grandmother's families include Sebok, Peto, Balla, and Molnar.
To view my family tree, click the dark green "Ancestors" button above.
I also research the ancestry of Mildred "Millie" (Van Sciver) Holt (1923 - 2004), who was a close family friend.
William is 24 degrees from Zendaya Coleman, 31 degrees from Sting Sumner, 17 degrees from Josh Brolin, 25 degrees from Timothée Chalamet, 22 degrees from José Ferrer, 22 degrees from Frank Herbert, 20 degrees from Richard Jordan, 23 degrees from David Lynch, 22 degrees from Virginia Madsen, 24 degrees from Charlotte Rampling, 30 degrees from Patrick Stewart and 21 degrees from Denis Villeneuve on our single family tree. The ONS has been around about 2.5 yr, most of it's activity has been my sourcing & connecting Laphams & their immediate families & occasionally adding things that I think are interesting to the page.
You are already following the Lapham tag and have the sticker on your profile - which is really all anybody has done - so you already belong. The only other thing I would ask is to pay attention & jump in when you can help.
Stay well, Jennifer
OK I see that now. Thank you. I will try and jump in when and where I can. Thank you for all your hard work. I hope you and your family are well. William

I just started a Lapham One Name Study. There are only a few of us following the name and I'm contacting them all to see if anybody is interested in joining me.
You've probably been hard at work adding family members and getting connected to those that are already here. You should have at least a few profiles that you manage now. You've covered a lot of ground the past few weeks. So, this week we're going to look at how to work with your Watchlist: How to Manage Your Watchlist
We are also going to give you just a few more tools that can take you even deeper into the WikiTree forest without getting lost: How to Dig a Little Deeper
As always, your questions are welcome!

You've been here for three weeks now! We hope you're profiles are starting to come together and that you've enjoyed getting to know all of us a little better. You're probably getting a good feel for the collaborative nature of WikiTree by now. We know that collaboration isn't always easy. So, we've put together a few pointers that can make working in this type of environment a little easier: How to be a Successful WikiTreer. As always, your questions are welcome!

It's time for your next stop on your guided tour. This week, we'd like to introduce you to our community and show you some ways to get more involved and stay up to date on everything that's going on: How to Join in the Community.
See you around the Tree!

Thanks for joining us! Im David, a WikiTree Mentor. Hope you're enjoying our site.
Did you have fun learning your way around WikiTree yesterday?
I would be happy to answer any questions you might have after working through How To Start Climbing Our Tree.
If you have any questions, feel free to ask!

Welcome! There are only three or four of us following the Lapham name last I checked. My family begins with John in Rhode Island, in the 1600's,made it as far west as the Buffalo - Rochester area, in the 1800's, then backtracked to Long Island in the 1900's. I have a copy of "Laphams in America" if you want some information about anybody. We are almost certainly cousins of some sort.
You are now a confirmed member, and you can get started adding your family members. As we've said, WikiTree is quite different from other genealogy sites. So, we've put together a guided tour to help you learn how to use it. Your first stop is How to Start Climbing Our Tree.
Tomorrow, you'll hear from a Mentor who will check in to see how you're doing and answer any questions you might have.
Next week, you'll get another message with your next stop on the guided tour.
You can also meet some of our members by joining in the fun with our Question of the Week in the G2G forum: Have you found any unusual occupations in your family tree?
Welcome!

Welcome to WikiTree! The email we just sent has helpful links to get you started.
WikiTree is different than other genealogy websites because our goal is to have one profile per person, and that means we share ancestors and work together as a BIG collaborative team!
What brings you to WikiTree? Do you have research youd like to share? Are you interested in how your family fits into the big tree?
When you confirm your email address, youll be given an opportunity to volunteer to help document our collective family history. Use the Tags and comments to tell us about your genealogical interests.
When you volunteer, one of our Greeters will confirm your membership. Then you'll be able to add your family to the tree!
We're really glad you're here!
