Biography

John was born in 1765. He passed away in 1819. [1]

According to Huxford's Pioneers of Wiregrass GA vol 10 p. 245-6, John Cecil Kight was the son of John Kight. John Cecil's grandfather was Samuel Kight. John Cecil Kight moved to Georgia as a young man and lived in Tattnall County when he received land lot # 320, 7th District, Wilkinson County in 1806 {Huxford does not state why John Cecil received this land).

On Feb 12, 1810 ,in Tattnall County, GA, John Cecil Kight married his cousin, Mrs. Mary Kight Sumner, b. 1770, the daughter of Robert Kight and Bethany Merritt Kight. Mary's first husband was Joseph Sumner. John Cecil and Mary separated soon after the birth of their last child. On 12 Aug 1814, John Cecil married Sarah Thomas in Bulloch County, GA. John Cecil willed land Lot # 115, 2nd District, Walton County, GA, in 1821 to his three oldest children Huxford states that according to James Mathew Kight, a grandson of John Cecil Kight, the three oldest children were not born by Mary.(appears he had been married before Mary, and she was his 2nd wife rather than 1st). The date of the will also indicates John Cecil died after 1819 (If the 1821 will date is when he made his will rather than probation of the will, John Cecil died after 1821).

John Cecil Kight and Mary Sumner Kight had at least five children according to Huxford; however; based on the above info, they had only two children: 1-Hiram Oct 7,1811-1877 m. Sarah Elizabeth Smith, 1833; 2nd Sarah Ann Griffis 2- Hulda Apr 10,1812-30 Sep 1880 m. Miles J Guest, 1831.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with John by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with John:
