WINNIE CLAYTON WAS NOT MARRIED TO CHARLES KILGORE, BUT TO HIS BROTHER ROBERT, KILLED BY THE INDIANS IN 1782 AND WOUNDED AT THE BATTLE OF KING'S MOUNTAIN. WELL DOCUMENTED IN SW VA. HISTORY. THE ERROR COMES FROM THE BOOK CHARLES KILGORE OF KING'S MOUNTAIN WHICH HAS BEEN SHOWN TO BE INCORRECT. THERE IS PLENTY OF PRIMARY DOCUMENTATION TO PROVE THIS FACT.CHARLES AND ROBERT WERE LONG HUNTERS IN THE COPPER CREEK/HUNTER'S FORD AREA IN THE EARLY 1770S SEE LAND DEEDS. LATER CHARLES MOVED TO GREENVILLE NC NOW TENN. ON THE NOLICHUCKY RIVER. SEE HIS WILL FOR THE NAME OF HIS WIFE AND CHILDREN.
