He was working as a farmer, and the value of his real estate was $300. He was born in South Carolina. According to this census, he could not read or write. [1]
On the 1860 Census, he was listed as a 51 year old male living in Carroll County, Georgia with his wife, Mary, and children: Martha and Eliza King. He was working as a Farmer. The value of his real estate was $700, and the value of his personal property was $350. His birthplace was listed as South Carolina. [2]
Benjamin King enlisted in Company H, 41st Regiment, Georgia Volunteer Regiment Infantry on March 4, 1862 as a Private in the Confederate Army. Regiment was called the "Wool Hat Boys". His son, Thomas Hiram King, served in the same unit. The 41st Regiment, Georgia Volunteer Infantry was organized March 1, 1862.
Benjamin King died in 1863. He was injured during the Battle of Vicksburg.
According to the "Roster of the Confederate Soldiers of Georgia 1861-1865," Benjamin King died of disease at a hospital in Mobile, Ala., on Aug. 9 or Sept. 13, 1863 (p. 485).
Benjamin King was listed as the father of Joseph G. King who died April 6, 1925 in Bowdon, Carroll County, Georgia. The mother was listed as Mary Burson and the wife Francis Hays.[3]
