Margaret was Illegitimate and her father is unknown.
Margaret is listed in the 1870 census in MO as part of the household of Elijah and Sylvia Kirksey. Additionally she is listed as the daughter of the HOH and not granddaughter. It can be then construed that Margaret was raised as the daughter of Elijah in order to protect her from social stain. Since Margaret was born in in TN and the family moved to MO it would have been easy to do so
Margaret's obituary reads:
Miss Margaret Malinda Kirksey was born in Granger County, Tenn., Dec. 3, 1861 and moved to Missouri in 1861. She was married to Luke Wiley Sept.7 1880. To this union were born 13 children three of which died when young, the rest were by her bedside when she died except George who was at Fairfax, Mo. She was a member of the Independence Free Will Baptist church. Funeral services were conducted by Mrs. Ferguson at the church and she was laid to rest in the Wiley Cemetery.
