Biography

John was born about 1755 or 1756.

In May 1793, for a sum of 500 pounds, John Carrington, Jr., sold 172 acres to John Knight. On 3 February 1798, John Knight sold this land for same sum to George Carrington of Orange County, NC and apparently headed for Georgia.

On 3 October 1808, he bought land in Baldwin County, Georgia, (that portion that is now Jasper County). This land was situated in the 13th District of the county at the town of Hillsboro.[1] [in 1808, Jasper County was named Randolph County]

In the 1820 Census, his family resided in Monticello, Jasper County, Georgia.[2] He is listed immediately above his son William Knight.

He passed away before 25 October 1838.[3]

Note from Knight descendant

Y-DNA of a descendant of a John Knight that migrated from Orange County, N.C. to Jasper County, Georgia before 1800, when compared to Y-DNA results previously discussed herein, indicates that this John Knight was related to the Knights of Bertie/Hertford Counties. N.C. and to our ancestors. We can find no record of John before he married Mary Carrington in Orange Co., N.C. in 1792, but several Internet family trees have him born in Jamestown, Va. in 1756. We have not determined how he relates to descendants of John Knight Sr. of Northampton Co., Va. or to the Knights of Bertie/Hertford Counties, N.C. (Tommy E. Knight, 17 Jun 2023).
