Biography

Pheobe was born in 1774. She is stated as being the daughter of William Lacy and his wife Mary Belle Nettle. Also her birth place is noted as being in Greenbrier Co., West Virginia, BUT Greenbrier had not yet been formed, and would not be formed until 1778, according the the Big Red Book. if William Lacy was her father and had moved from New Kent County, VA by 1775, they would have been living in the County of Augusta or Botetourt in the State of Virginia, depending on the where William Lacy's property lied. According to Revolutionary War pension files, there was a William Lacy who fought in the Revolutionary war from New Kent County, VA. If that the case this Pheobe would have been born in New Kent County, VA and William Lacy most likely moved to that area, after the war.
