Buried in McGill Cemetery, Potwin, Butler Co, Kansas: Birth: Feb. 16, 1842 Dearborn County Indiana, USA Death: Oct. 25, 1915 Auburndale Polk County Florida, USA Thomas Laird was the son of John Laird and Rebecca Townsend. Thomas enlisted in the fall of 1861 in the Missouri homeguards, and in April of 1862 enlisted in Company G, 4th Missouri Cavalry, for three years. He participated in the Battle of Springfield, Raid on Price, and several hard fought skirmishes and was wounded slightly at the Battle of Big Blue. He was discharged April 22, 1865 at St. Louis, Missouri. On April 1, 1866 in Taylor County, Iowa, Thomas married Julia Ann Scott. Thomas and Julia had children: Fannie, Charles, Oscar, Norton, Frank, and J. Louie. After Julia passed, Thomas married Mary Ellen 'Ella' Combs on February 23, 1879 in Taylor County, Iowa. Thomas and Ella had children: Clyde, Bertha, John, Edwin, and Vida.
