Page 251.--In the name of God, Amen, September 11, 1738 I, JAMES LANDON, of Southold, in Suffolk County, cordwainer, being very sick. I leave to my son James all that my house and land in Litchfield, Connecticut, and he shall pay to my son John oe57. I leave to my son Joseph, all my lot of land in Southold, which he the said Joseph is now possessed of. My will and pleasure is that my son David shall have my now dwelling house, and land and buildings; reserving to my wife Mary the best room in the house while she remains my widow. and I leave her 1/3 of all the movables. I leave to my son Nathan oe15, and to my daughters Lydia and Ann oe10. My executors are to sell all my part of the wind mill, standing upon my land in Southold, with the land on which it stands, being 8 acres. All the rest of my estate to my 6 sons, Joseph, James, Daniel, David, John, and Nathan, And to my 4 daughters, Mary, Rachel, Lydia, and Anne. I appoint Joshua Young, Esq., and my brother-in law John Vail, and my son Joseph, executors. Witness, John Youngs, Mary Budd, Robert Hempsted. Proved before Brinley Silvester, Esq., March 26, 1738. The genealogy here mixes up James Landon and James C Landon, I believe. This confusion is apparently caused by the assumption that "Bristol" was a reference to Rhode Island. James C Landon was born in Bristol MA. James Landon lived in Rhode Island, IIRC.
James C Landon was sent to live with his uncle Nathan Landon in Southold, possibly after his father Daniel was executed for piracy.
The 2009 book Southold Connections (available as a ebook) has the most current Landon genealogy for this branch, I believe. The old 1928 Landon genealogy book has a number of inaccuracies.
