The Williams Genealogy page at Facebook - a group of genealogy researchers who use atDNA, mtDNA and YDNA along with the paper trail - has determined that there is ample evidence that Frances Lane was the first wife of John Williams.
Frances was the daughter of Corbin Lane and Frances "Fanny" Prock, not Proctor, and this Prock surname was confirmed by well-known Corbin Lane researcher Donald W. Lane.
Frances Lane and John Williams married in 1813 in Scott County, Virginia. Their first four children - Malinda, Patience, Isaac and Abraham - were born in Virginia before they migrated to Floyd County, Kentucky. Their children Jacob Henry, James Madison and Andrew Jackson "Jack" Williams were born in Floyd County, Kentucky.
Frances apparently died by 1830, perhaps after birthing Jack, and does not appear in the 1830 Census for Floyd County.
Her husband, John, was widowed by 1830 with seven young children to care for.
We have found no death record for Frances Lane Williams.
