Martha was born around 1740, in Virginia (in what would become Greensville County when it was formed in 1781).
Martha is mentioned in the administration accounts for her father's estate when Lemuel Lanier is named her guardian.[1]
Around 1762, she married John Loftin. They had the following children.

Frances Loftin b. 1781 - d. abt. 1845, m. William Sturdivant
Eldridge Edward Loftin b. 1782 VA - d. 1842 NC, m. Mary Sherrill (sister of Susannah)
Herbert Chamberlain Loftin b. abt. 1783 - d. abt. 1815
Augustine Loftin b. 1786 VA - d. 1850 TN, m. Mary McCarroll Grigg
John died in 1793, age 53. She moved to North Carolina and lived with her daughter Martha and her family. She lived another 30 years, passing away on 6 Aug 1823 in Snow Creek, Stokes County, North Carolina.
