Biography

Edward Boyston Lanman was born in 1852 in Norwich, Connecticut, the son of Peter Lanman III (1807–1886) and Catherine (Cook) Lanman (1814–1854).

He moved to Columbus, Ohio where he founded the E. B. Lanman Company in 1878, which manufactured washers, nuts, bolts, etc.

Edward married Georgiana Burnham Lanman on 29 Apr 1884 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Their children were:

  1. Edward Boylston Lanman, Jr. (1887–1949)
  2. Henry Augustus Lanman (1889–1956)
  3. Charles Burnham Lanman (1891–1974)
  4. George Burnham Lanman, Sr. (1894–1958)

Edward passed away at age 45 in 1897 in Columbus, Franklin County, Ohio and was buried in Green Lawn Cemetery, Columbus, Ohio.

From Stone: EDWARD BOYLSTON LANMAN was born Nov. 10, 1852 . About 1870, he went from Norwich, Conn., to Columbus, Ohio, where he became involved in the manufacture of bolts. He married Georgiana Burnham on April 29, 1884, at Philadelphia. She was born Oct. 29, 1851, daughter of Charles and Olivia S. (Bliss) Burnham. Nine years earlier her brother Charles A. Burnham had married Catharine Cook Lanman. E. B. Lanman was the founder of the E. B. Lanman Company, which was located in Columbus during his lifetime, but now produces bolts, nuts, and fasteners in East Chicago, Indiana. He belonged to the First Presbyterian Church of Columbus, and later the Broad Street Presbyterian Church. He died Dec. 8, 1897, in Columbus, aged 45, and Georgiana (Burnham) Lanman died March 14, 1926. Children: i. Edward Boylston Lanman, II, born Oct. 8, 1887, at Columbus. ii. Henry Augustus Lanman, born July 30, 1889, at Columbus. iii. Charles Burnham Lanman, born Jan. 5, 1891, at Columbus. iv. George Burnham Lanman, born Sept. 23 , 1894, at Columbus.

He and his wife are buried in Green Lawn Cemetery, Columbus, Ohio.
