Biography

John was a Friend (Quaker)

John was born 2 Dec 1703, at Dartmouth, Massachusetts Bay.[1][2] He passed away in 1782.[2]

Her married Desire Howland, daughter of Benjamin Howland, on 9d 1m 1725/6 [9 Mar 1726].[3]

John Lapham 3, (John 2, John 1) b. Dec. 3, 1703, at Dartmouth, Mass., son of John and Mary Russell Lapham m. (1) at Dartmouth, Mass., Mar. 9, 1725, Desire Howland b. Dartmouth Aug. 29, 1696; d. 1760; dau. of Benjamin Howland 3, Zoeth 2, Henry; m. (2) at Nine Partners, N. Y., Oct. 1, 1777, Widow Rachel White. They lived at Nine Partners, N. Y. John died 1782 at Nine Partners, N. Y. John lll and family left Dartmouth abt. 1730, and went to Smithfield, R. I., where he lived ten or twelve years. From there he moved to Nine Partners, near Amenia, Dutchess Co., N. Y., and settled in the Quaker settlement. This site near what is now known as Hyde Park. Desire's father was a farmer and owned what is called the "Round Hill." The farm at Dartmouth, which has always been and still is, held by a descendant. Her father was a prominent citizen, and was frequently selected for responsible positions. In his will, dated 1722, he mentions ch. Abigail, Desire, Lydia, Isaac and Barnabas. He was a member of Apponegansett Friends Society.

Research Notes

Findagrave memorial # 190843154 shows John's death date as 1769, 'Lapham's in America' as 1782. Assuming he did marry "Widow Rachel White" in 1777, eight years after the FAG dod, the 1782 date is much more likely.
