Four brothers: William, James, Adam and Robert Laughlin emigrated from Northern Ireland to Pennsylvania between 1725-1729, during the second wave of the Scotch-Irish Great Migration. They settled in Lancaster County PA, where Adam left a will prior to his death in 1758. Adam Laughlin, by his first wife Katherine, had 4 children: Janet, Katherine, John and Matthew. By his second wife Margaret, he had 7 children: Agnes, Isabell, Hugh, Mary, James, Robert and Sarah. After Margaret died abt 1770, Hugh with his brothers Robert and James and half brother John moved to Fayette County PA.[1]
"...I bequeath to my beloved wife Margaret Laughlin, one bed & furniture [...] I order the remainder of my Estate after all debts are cleared off, to be equally divided among my wife Margaret Laughlin, and my children Agnes Laughlin, Isabell Laughlin, Hugh Laughlin, Mary Laughlin, James Laughlin, Robert, & Sarah Laughlin; but I order my three youngest children, James, Robert, & Sarah Laughlin, to have three pounds each of them [...] Fourthly, I bequeath to my daughter Janet the sum of one shilling sterling, 5thly, I bequeath to my daughter Katherine one Shilling sterling. 6thly I bequeath to my son John one shilling sterling. 7thly I bequeath to my son Mathew Laughlin, the sum of three pounds..."
