Notes by BLR

1. These records from a Lea Bible are in SCRUGGS GENEALOGY by Ethel Hastings Scruggs-Dunklin, p. 208-9, a copy of which is in the Virginia State Library, Richmond VA. The material appears in SCRUGGS GENEALOGY because the first wife of William Alanson Dunklin (1810-1888) was Mary Eliza Rogers, daughter of Polly Miles by her husband, Timothy Rogers.
2. We note that this Lea Bible record shows George Lea to be the grandfather of Margaret (Lea) Houston, wife of Gen. Sam Houston, governor of Texas. This is in accord with a tradition held by the descendants of James Madison Long of Texas. James Madison Long, grandson of Eunice Lea (sister of George Lea), moved to Texas around 1840 and there became a judge and one time mayor of Austin. There is a tradition in the Long family that they were kin to Margaret Lea who married Gen. Sam Houston. In fact, James M. Long was a second cousin of Margaret (Lea) Houston.

Lea-195 and Lea-157 appear to represent the same person because: These appear to be the same people with a few differences. I have added sources for mine.
