According to Missouri marriage records, Mary Elizabeth married Joseph Bishop Tanner on the 27th of October in the year 1867. Mary was about 15 or 16 years old when she married Joseph.[3]

1860 U.S. Census - Elizabeth was eight years old living with her parents on their farm in the town of Keene located in Adams County, Illinois. Her father was 53 and her mother was 46.
1870 U.S. Census - Elizabeth Lee Tanner was sixteen years old and married to James P. Tanner. The couple were living in the township of Osage in Miller County, Missouri. James was farming and Elizabeth was keeping house. The farm was adjacent to the farm of Elizabeth's older brother, Charles Henry Lee and his wife, Nancy Melvina Tanner. Nancy was the sister of Elizabeth's husband, James Tanner.
