Biography

Abraham Keith Leedy was born on his father's 640 acre farm in Jefferson Twp., Richland County, Ohio, United States.

Father: "Big" John Leedy b: 09-10-1779; d: 09-06-1861.

Mother: Elizabeth Ann (Keith) Leedy b: 04-04-1789; d: 04-14-1870.

On 18 Sep 1835 he married Elizabeth Baker near Ankenytown, Knox County, Ohio. She was the daughter of Philip Baker, Sr. & Catharine (Brollier) Baker. They raised the first four children born to them in Jefferson Twp., Richland County, Ohio.

On 13 Oct 1842 Abraham moved his wife and four small children by wagon from Jefferson Twp., Richland County, Ohio, to Washington Twp., Kosciusko County, Indiana. They reportedly spent their last six weeks in a log cabin on present day site of Pierceton, Indiana. Purchased farm land in December of 1842 designated as school lands on Section 16, Washington Twp., Kosciusko County, where they raised the remainder of their family and spent the rest of their lives. This land was reportedly "covered with timber" and "none had ever been cut except by Indians or by early settlers for coons or bees."

He was a farmer and served as Justice of the Peace for Washington Twp. for five years. Abraham and Elizabeth were members of the German Baptist faith.
