William was born on the 20th of June 1731.[1] William was baptised on the 9th of July 1731, at St Marylebone Parish Church, Marylebone Road, London, England.[2] William was the son of Elizabeth Kaye and George Legge, who was styled Viscount Lewisham.[3]
William in 1748 attended Trinity College in Oxford.
William was Secretary of State for the Colonies from 1772 to 1775. He was also served on the Privy Counsel.[1]
William was married on the 11th of January 1755, to Frances Catherine Nicoll, daughter of Elizabeth Blundell and Sir Charles Gounter Nicoll.[1]
