Biography

Mollie may be the the daughter of Jesse Lester and Mary "Polly" London, the owners of the Jesse Lester Tavern. Jesse was the the justice-of-the-peace at Rockford in Surry Co. Mollie's birthplace of New Jersey is inferred from the 1768 marriage of Jesse Lester and Mary London in New Jersey and her estimated birth year of 1768. However, other researchers have put the birthdate of Mary London at 1762 ^[1] rather than 1752 ^[2].

In 1802 Jesse Lester sold land to Aaron Matthews, and in 1830, Ruth, along with her sisters Mary and Morning, gave part of that land for the organization of Prospect Methodist Church, which still prospers here in Yadkin Co.

Some researchers state that Aaron's wife was named Mary Lester, but it seems unlikely. Research by Fred Coffey^[3] more or less rules out the possibility that Mary was Aaron's wife and mother to his five children. The descendants of Mary Lester, b. approx 1790, (d/o Jesse and Mary) were born between 1813 and 1825^[4].
