John was born in January, 1871, near Dix, IL. He married Nellie Free and moved to Pierce Co, Washington. John and Nellie divorced in Oct, 1904. John remarried an unknown Anna in 1909 and appears in the 1910 census in St Louis, Missouri. He then moved to Kansas City, MO. He returned to the St Louis area in Desoto, MO and died in 1926.

Research Note

• John E Leuty, aged 55 years died at his home on Boyd Street after an illness of about six months. Funeral services were held at Barnhart's Parlors Sunday afternoon [Oct 17]. The remains were shipped to Dix, Illinois Tuesday morning for interment.

  "Another case of a husband deserting his wife and family and the brave mother taking the four four children to carry on the struggle of life was disclosed in the divorce suit in the superior court when Nellie Leuty was granted a divorce from John E Luety on the ground of abandonment. They were married in Illinois in 1901 [1891] and live at Orting. Mrs. Leuty was awarded possesion possesion of the home."
