He was ordained deacon in 1824 and priest at Worcester in 1825.[1]

He was Curate of Sedgley, Staffordshire from 1831 to 1837 and Vicar there from 1837 to 1870. He also served as Rural Dean of Himley, Staffordshire.[1]

William died on 10 January 1870 and was buried at Sedgley on 15 January 1870.[1] His death was registered in the Dudley district of Staffordshire in the first quarter pf 1870.[5]

A short obituary in the Staffordshire Advertiser states that he died of an illness which "had its origin in his devotion to his ministerial duties. The rev. gentleman was the first magistrate appointed upon the establishment of the Petty Sessional Court here [at Sedgley], and he was the chairman of the Sedgley Local Board from its commencement. He also associated himself with every movement having for its object the good of the town, and many important improvements were due to his exertions."[6]
