Mary Lewis was a daughter of John Lewis and Mary Garner of Northumberland County, Virginia. This is evidence by her marriage to Pemberton Claughton, son of John Claughton and his wife Anne Pemberton, and the issue of this marriage, a son named Pembeton Claughton, named in the will of her mother, Mary Price dated 21 December 1724 wherein she named two of Mary's children as her grandsons.[1]
Her marriage records are elusive. She was widowed prior to 15 March 1709/10, the date she was granted an Order for the inventory of her deceased husband to be taken in Northumberland County Court.[2] Her marriage to Pemberton Claughton, son of John Claughton is additionally evidenced by the 6 March 1725/6 will of John Claughton, naming grandson Pemberton Claughton.[3]
Per Headley's Married Well and Often, widowed Mary Claughton again married to Josiah Dameron. This is proved by Northumerland Court records.[4] He was incorrectly transcribed as Joseph Damerill named son-in-law in the will of Mary Price.
