William Lindsey was born in 1675 or 1696 or 1702. He is possibly the son of Caleb Lindsay and Clare Daniel. He had a wife named Jane who may have been nicknamed "Jean" and may have been surnamed "Chew". All we know for certain is that her given name was Jane as there are land records in Brunswick, Virginia with both William and Jane as parties. [1] See Robin Rankin Willis's article, Three William Lindsey's of Brunswick County... for details. Since Jane is not mentioned in William's will, one may presume that she passed away before May 1766.
William's last will and testament, dated May 1766, names the following persons and his son, James, as executor:
James Lindsey
Caleb Lindsey (presumably he preceded his father in death)
Sarah Copeland
Sarah Lindsey, granddaughter
Elizabeth Lindsey, granddaughter, daughter of Caleb
Susannah Lindsey, granddaughter, daughter of James
Will of William Lindsey (Abt 1695 - Before 1768 (~ 73 years)
In the name of God, Amen...Brunswick...my son James Lindsey my lands and plantation the land whereon my said son James Lindsey now liveth the said land lying part in my old patent and part in my new patent...by estimation 85 acres...to my daughter Sarah Copeland my bed and furniture...granddaughter Elizabeth Lindsey, daughter of Caleb Lindsey my chest. Granddaughter Sarah Lindsey my small trunk...Granddaughter Susannah Lindsey, daughter of James Lindsey, one cow...Granddaughter Elizabeth Lindsey, daughter of James(?) Lindsey, all my pewter. I desire that my estate not be appraised. Son James Lindsey executor. May 1766. Wit: William Brown, Nathaniel Robertson, Thomas Holcomb.
William's will was proved 26 Sep 1768, so one would presume that he died sometime that year.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with William by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA.
Y-chromosome DNA test-takers in his direct paternal line on WikiTree:

It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with William:
This William Lindsey, abt.1695-1768 is not in my family tree, is not identified as a Group 2 Lindsey in the Lindsay One Name Project (see mimpickles.com), and most likely not connected to my Y chromosome haplogroup, FT78036 under family patriarch Edmund Lindsey, b. ca 1665 in Cecil County, Maryland. Please disconnect William Lindsey and his descendants from my line. This really creates confusion as people seeing this will assume that my y chromosome haplotype applies to their family also. I suggest that as much as possible, people adding their ancestors to Wikitree include the proven DNA information documenting that lineage to prevent this kind of accidental mislabeling.

I do not have a record of a David Lindsay in this family.
I also believe the wife of William Lindsay was Jannet White (Whyte).

I haven't seen any evidence to dispute the idea that this William Lindsay was the immigrant.

I have looked diligently to find something, other than a wish, that he was the son of Caleb Lindsay. The only indication I can find that points in that direction is he had a son named Caleb.
Lindsey-3734 and Lindsey-458 appear to represent the same person because: the parents and siblings are the same on both; spouse is unclear-one has no LNAB and the given names are similar (Jean vs Jane). DOBs are 20 years apart, children do not match and the DOD is different.
Does anyone have proof that William Lindsey is the son of Caleb Lindsey (other than he had a son named Caleb)? Does anyone have proof that he was married to Jane Chew? I have not been able to find anything to substantiate either one and believe that William may be the immigrant who arrived in 1735. There is a marriage record for William Lindsay and Jannet White in Scotland in 1730. She appears to be the daughter of William White who is mentioned in Chalkey's Chronicles in 1746.
Lindsey-943 and Lindsey-940 appear to represent the same person because: same name, same time frame, same siblings, same person , is the son of Caleb Lindsay, 3 sons and no other siblings, no John and sisters.
Lindsey-689 and Lindsey-458 appear to represent the same person because: THE BIRTH DATE IS CLOSER TO 1695/6. THIS IS THE SON OF CALEB LINDSEY. WILLIAM DID MARRY A JANE (CHEW) JAMES WILLIAM AND WINIFRED ARE BROTHER AND SISTER. THIS SHOULD BE MERGED.
