Biography

Unfortunately, I do not have much information yet about my great x4 grandmother, Sarah Lines, although I do have several DNA matches through her descendants!

I have estimated Sarah's birth as being in about 1763 based on the age given in her death certificate. It would also fit with an appropriate marriage age in 1790 and her last child being born in 1809 (although a birth slightly closer to 1765-1769 would make more sense). Her maiden name of Lines may also have been Lyons or variations thereof so the baptism is equally difficult to pin down with any certainty. I will keep researching and adding to this profile as I discover any more information.

The banns of marriage between Thomas Carter and Sarah Lines were read at the All Saints Parish Church in Edmonton, Middlesex on the 15th, 22nd and 29th August 1790 when they were listed as a bachelor and spinster of the same parish. They married at that church (see photos) on the 7th September 1790.

The couple had at least seven children in these baptism years: Thomas (1793), Sarah Elizabeth (1795), William (1797), John (1800), Charles (1806 but born in 1803), James (1806) and Henry (1809).

According to her death certificate, Sarah died on the 9th March 1851 at Tanners End, Edmonton. She was described as the widow of Thomas Carter, labourer, and her age was recorded as 88 years. The certified cause of death was 'The natural Infirmities of old age'. The death was registered on the 14th March 1851 by Maria Carter, present at the death, who was also resident in Tanners End. This was probably Sarah's daughter-in-law, Maria, who was married to son Charles. Sarah was buried on the 16th March 1851 at All Saints Parish Church, Edmonton.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Sarah by comparing test results with other carriers of her mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known mtDNA test-takers in her direct maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Sarah:
