Biography

John Ling was born about 1767 in Hesse Darmstadt, Germany, the oldest son of Anthony Ling and Elizabeth Rad. He was about age fourteen when the family came to America landing in Baltimore, Maryland. He married Juliana Eiler about 1786.[1]

John and Juliana had ten children, namely Daniel, Elizabeth, Margaret, Anthony, Jacob, Samuel, Catherine, Isaac, John, and Christian.

John appears on the Bedford Co. records throughout his life. John & his descendants subsequently settled around Pavia, New Paris, Windber and in southeast Cambria county. Probate records from Somerset Co: 5 Jan 1824 John Ling was discharged under the general act of Assembly made for the Relief of Insolvent Debtors, etc. (This is a copy of the Bedford Co. Court action) From Bedford Co. Common Pleas Docket 1, Sherriff Deeds 07 Apr 1820 forty (40) acres Bedford Township sold by sheriff as property of John Ling, delinquent collector of county taxes for Bedford Co. & 06 Nov 1821 fifty (50) acres in Bedford Twp. on which there are two excellent orchards, a good dwelling house, still house and barn, about 40 acres of which are cleared and under fence sold as property of John Ling, a delinquent Collector of Taxes for Bedford Twp. to satisfy the balance due to Bedford Co.[2]

John Ling is listed in Bedford Twp., Bedford Co. in 1830 Census with wife 70-80 yrs. John died 1830-1840, Bedford Co., PA.
