Biography

Joseph was born January 6, 1866 to David and Esther(Hill) Lingard. Like his parents he farmed. Joseph also was recorded with additional occupations of lumbering and surveying.

Joseph's farm was in Tenecape over looking the Minas Basin. Recorded on his death registration was that he lived 40 years at that residence. It was a beautiful spot to be sure. He married Rachel Brown and together they raised their family.

It was a relatively large home with a big kitchen built at the back where the wood stove would cook food, heat water and keep the downstairs warm.Off the kitchen was my favourite spot the pantry. Here the majority of the meals were prepared and food stocks located. In addition, off the kitchen was the entry to the cellar which housed all sorts of preserved food. There was a large two story diningroom off the kitchen. A parlour and one bedroom flanked opposite corners of the dinningroom. The upstairs was where the "Children's" bedroom's were, with one very large for the girl's with a fireplace and two smaller. These were referred to as the boys rooms and were always a bit spooky to me!

There was an apple orchard and we still picked apples, although by the time I was going to visit with my parents, it really was no longer a working farm.

Joseph died April 27, 1941 at the age of 75Y/3M/21D. and was buried April 29, 1941 in the Tenecape Cemetery beside his wife, sons and daughters and many other relatives.

However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Joseph:
