Biography

From the Malvern Leader, 18 August 1927: Hester Ann Estes was born April 9 1844 in Nodaway County, Missouri and died Sunday, August 14, 1927 at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Fay Wright in Glenwood, Iowa. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Linville who were early pioneers of this county coming here when she was ten years old.

At the age of sixteen she was united in marriage to William Marida Estes. This union was blessed with nine children of whom there are five living. They are Margaret Estes of Glenwood, Iowa; R. C. Estes of Kansas City, Mo.; S. M. Estes of Glenwood, Iowa; Mrs. Fay Wright of Glenwood, Iowa; and Wm. M. Estes of Pacific Junction, Iowa. She has ten living grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren, also one brother, Lewis Linville, of Atkinson, Nebr., and two sisters, Mrs. George Bohart of Chicago, Ill., and Mrs. Frank Wright of Glenwood, Iowa.

She was a woman of great character and was well loved by many and will be greatly missed in both her home circle and that of her church and many friends. She has been a faithful member of the Christian church since she was twelve years of age. For the past two years she has made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Fay Wright, and during her last illness all her children have been near her bedside doing all in their power to make her comfortable and happy.

Funeral rites for Mrs. Hester Estes were held from the home of her daughter, Mrs. Fay Wright, on Tuesday at two p.m. conducted by Rev. D. S. Thompson of Havelock, Nebr., former pastor of the Glenwood Christian church. Mrs. J. D. Ironmonger sang two solos with piano accompaniment by Mrs. C. T. Genung. The pallbearers were L. S. Robinson, C. T. Genung, Carl Buch, S. W. Rhoades, N. S. Genung, and John Johnson. Burial was in Glenwood cemetery.
