Elizabeth Jane Livingston was born in 1830, in Fentress County, Tennessee, to parents Thoimas Livingston and Sarah (Kennedy Livingston.

• 1850 U.S. Census: Eliza York, age 21, lived in Fentress County, Tennessee, with her husband, Urias (sic), 25. Uriah's occupation was farmer and he owned real estate valued at $130. Both were born in Tennessee, and were married within the year. ^[1]
• 1860 U.S. Census: Eliza York, age 30, lived in the 4th District, Fentress County, Tennessee, with her husband, Uriah, 35, and their children, Celia, 4; and John, 2. Uriah was a farmer and owned real estate valued at $200, and had a personal estate valued at $282. All family members were born in Tennessee. ^[2]
• 1865 Husband Uriah York died.
• 1870 U.S. Census: Eliza York, age 40, lived in District 3, Fentress County, Tennessee, with her children, Celia, 15; John, 13; William, 11; George, 6; and Bates, 1. Eliza's occupation was keeping house. All family members were born in Tennesee. Celia and John attended school, but could not write. William could not read or write. ^[3]
