Biography

John Schultz and Katrina Loewen Schultz left S. Russia 25 May 1877, traveled for eight days across Europe, and sailed for 14 days from Antwerp to Philadelphia. Arrival date in U.S.: June 16 (by calculation). Add 12 days for calender correction makes it June 28, 1877. John's father and several of his siblings had come to the U.S. in 1874.

The 1880 U.S. Census for Cottonwood Co Minnesota gives his name in the German form, "Johann." The listing says he is a farmer, aged 47, born in Russia. Of these children, only Katerina, Johann (John), Susannah, and Anna are listed in the census, suggesting that the others might have died before June, 1880.
