WILLIAM LONGESPEE, Knt., died at about Christmas 1256 from injuries received in a tournament held at Blyth, Nottinghamshire on 4 June 1256, at which, according to Matthew Paris, he had exerted himself beyond his strength.[1]

[CFR HIII] 19 October 1252 Westminster. The king has taken the homage of William Longespée, son and heir of Idonea, who was the wife of William Longespée, for all lands and tenements which Idonea held of the king in chief in Oxfordshire on the day she died and which fall to William by hereditary right. Order to the abbot of Pershore to cause William to have full seisin of all of the aforesaid lands and tenements, having first accepted security from him by his co-escheator in the aforesaid county for rendering 50s. to the king for his relief.
