Biography

William Lord was born about 1680 in East Haddam, Middlesex County, Connecticut,[1] the son of William Lord and Sarah Brooks.[2] William married Hannah Parker,[3] the daughter of Joseph Parker and Hannah Gilbert, probably in East Haddam, Connecticut. We have no record of the marriage date, but their first child was born in 1707. In the Genealogy of the Descendants of Thomas Lord,[4] published in 1946, Kenneth Lord gives a list of the seven children of William and Hannah. There are few original records for these children and the dates found in original records, biographical indices, and family tree summaries agree closely with the dates provided in Kenneth Lord's Genealogy (see Research Notes):

  • Mary Lord, b. East Haddam, Conn., 1707, bapt. Mar. 26, 1708.
  • Hannah Lord, b. East Haddam, Conn., 1708, bapt. Apr. 25, 1708; m. Joseph Crouch.
  • William Lord, b. East Haddam, Conn., 1710, bapt. Mar. 4, 1711, d. West Chester, Conn., Aug. 1, 1777; m. Colchester, Conn., Mar. 21, 1745, Tabitha Porter of Hebron, Conn., b. Nov. 11, 1716, d. West Chester, Aug. 21, 1786, dau. of David and Anna Phelps Porter.
  • Sarah Lord, b. East Haddam, Conn., bapt. Oct. 18, 1713.
  • Hepzibah Lord, b. East Haddam, Conn., bapt. July 29, 1716; m. John Shepardson.
  • Mehitable Lord, b. East Haddam, Conn., bapt. June 26, 1720.
  • Susanna Lord, b. East Haddam, Conn., bapt. July 1, 1722; (probably m. Apr. 29, 1767, John Shepardson, widower of her sister Hepzibah).

William passed away on 29 Oct 1736 in East Haddam, Middlesex County, Connecticut and is buried at the Old Cove Burying Ground in East Haddam.[5]
