Thomas Lucas, Jr was born March 1, 1709, in Middletown, Middlesex Connecticut, a son of Thomas Lucas and Sarah (Leek) Lucas. [1] On May 1, 1740, in Middletown, Thomas married Mary Allen/Allyn,[2] born January 17, 1713, in Middletown, a daughter of John Allyn and Elizabeth Mary/Mari (Howe) Allyn [3]
"Thomas Lucas, Jr. came to Goshen from Middletown about 1755 and bought a tract of land on what is known as Lucas Hill, [4] getting his titles form one of the original proprietors of the town. He built a log house near the big rock east of the house now belonging to the estate of Daniel Norton Lucas, and from that day till now that section has remained in the name and occupancy of the family." [5]
This portion needs further research: "Thomas, Jr. had two sons, the elder also a Thomas, Jr. was a soldier in the war of the Revolution, a young man of great promise, but gave his life for the new republic, dying of camp fever ten days after his return home. The other, Allen Lucas, remained with his father on Lucas Hill, married and reared a large family." [6]
Some indexes give 1708 instead of 1709 as the year of Thomas' birth. This is due to the "Old Style Calendar" Before 1752 the year began on Lady Day, March 25th,. Dates between January 1st and March 24th were at the end of the year. Old Style (O.S.) and New Style (N.S.) are used to indicate whether the year has been adjusted. Often both dates are used.
