Biography

Thomasin (Lumpkin) Sunderland immigrated to New England as a child during the Puritan Great Migration (1621-1640).

Thomasine (aka Tamsen) Lumpkin was born about 1625[1] the daughter of William Lumpkin and Tamesin (____) Lumpkin.

She married first in Yarmouth 1643 Samuel Mayo[2] by whom she had Mary Mayo. [3]

She married secondly John Sunderland before 27 June 1664, the date of an indenture made by John Synderland Sr. of Boston and Thomasin his wife.[4] John was of Boston and later of Eastham (he d. Dec. 26, 1708 in 85th year of age; his 1st wife Dorothy died Jan 29, 1663/4. John's occupation was a parchment maker in Boston. Later he was a school teacher).[5] John Sunderland's will of 27 Sept. 1700, prov. 4 Apr. 1704, provides for his widow and her daughters: Mary Bangs; Sarah Freeman; and Mercy Sears.[6]

Tamsen Sunderlin died 16 June 1709 Brewster, Barnstable, Massachusetts [7] and was buried in the Brewster Old Burial Ground where her gravestone still stands:[8] [9]
